Nucleus Colonies
We sell nucleus colonies (nucs) on either British National or Langstroth frames. Our production colonies are all in Langstroth hives, but most customers seem to want to use Nationals, so we make plenty of both types. Our nucs are populated with the same bees and queens that we use to produce our delicious honey. Nucs are available for collection by arrangement – use the contact form if interested.
Over-Wintered Nucs
Normally available from late April, but it all depends on the weather. These colonies are headed by a queen raised in the previous season, so they are ready to grow rapidly and should produce a honey crop in the summer. 2025 price £280 each (limited supply). Collection only.
Summer Nucs
We sell a few nucs in the summer but find that demand is much higher for bees earlier in the year. These are headed by current season queens, raised by us from May to August. These bees should be able to grow strong in time for winter, but you may have to wait until the following season for a honey crop. 2025 price £250 each (available July). Collection only, usually from Red House Farm, Dunham Massey, Cheshire.
Queens
We do not normally sell our queens, except as part of a nucleus colony.
